Camping at MacKerricker State Park - Fort Bragg, CA

Tim and Gayle with their daughter Monica.
We went camping for a few days with our good friends, Tim and Gayle, from Sacramento. Don and Tim used to work together in Sacramento and are still good golfing buddies. We used to go camping to Mackerricker when we lived in Sacramento when our kids were younger so it was a real treat to go camping there again. The beach is located in Mendocino County and has beautiful beaches with rough ragged cliffs and lots of sea life. The weather was clear and warm our entire stay and the sunsets were amazing.
MacKerricker State BeachThe campground is located on the bluff overlooking the ocean. The fishing town of Fort Bragg is located just a few miles south and is full of local shops and great restaurants and includes the North Coast Brewery. There are lots of trails for people and horses to enjoy a stroll along the cliffs.
Our tent in the woods.
Beautiful meadows golden in the sun.
We visited the Blue Star Winery located on a cliff overlooking the ocean. We enjoyed a picnic and wine tasting and finished the afternoon with a little whale watching!
Caves are located on either side of the cliff and an earthquake fault line was recently discovered down the middle of the winery!

Seals have taken over a cove near our campground. This area is now protected for the seals and their newborn pups.
The best for last, a large whale breaching in the waves. We were just about to leave the area when someone noticed the large spray of water in the waves.
