Graeagle

Every year we go to Graeagle for a few days to celebrate the 4th of July weekend old fashion mountain style. We have had large groups with lots of friends and family and some years just a few of us. Last year Sophia was born just a few days before our annual Graeagle trip and this year we celebrated her 1st birthday there.
The drive to Graeagle is one of my favorites. We drive up towards Mt. Lassen, along the shore of Lake Almanor, follow the Feather River through the canyon, through the historic mountain town of Quincey and then just a few more miles to Graeagle.
When Don worked for CalTrans, part of his district included Graeagle and he often stayed at the River Pines Resort and got to know the owners there very well. Each year we see the same families and many like ours have expanded to include other generations to enjoy this family favorite destination!
Birthday girl and her parents arrived from Sacramento to begin the big birthday celebration!
There was a delicious cake that her mommy made just for her!
Presents to open!
And more to open...
And to play with.....
Grandpa brought his kayaks.
We all went to Gold Lake one afternoon to kayak. Many of the back country roads were still closed due to snow! We have never seen the lake this full or so much snow this time of year.
Alain getting ready to go out on the lake.
The water was so clear but cold! Emily and Alain enjoying time on the lake.
Sophia's first swimming pool experience. The water was pretty cold, afterwards Emily noticed that they were the only adults in the pool! Could have been a clue on how cold it really was! Sophia didn't mind a bit!
We had a great trip to Graeagle this year and celebrating Sophia's 1st birthday in one of our families favorite vacation spots. Happy birthday little girl!
