Butte Lake

As often as possible, we go camping to Butte Lake in the Lassen Volcanic National Park.  Don and I first started camping there when we were first married and lived in nearby Susanville.  Years later we took the kids camping there and Don taught them how to fish and canoe in Butte Lake.  We often went there with our family and friends either camping or just for a day trip to picnic near the lake.  The area has lots to offer with hiking trails, kayaking on the pristine lake that is surrounded on one end with a lava flow and just enjoying the beautiful scenery.

Cinder Cone
You can hike to the top of Cinder Cone and view the area of desolation from the volcano eruption May 22, 1915.

The lake is a great canoeing or kayaking lake, no power boats are allowed on this lake making it a very peaceful and relaxing float along the shores.

We had a great end of summer weekend with our family camping at Butte Lake.  Just glad that we didn't see any bears this camping trip, especially after watching the true story of The Night of the Grizzly just days before we went camping!  That was not such a great idea, had nightmares and swore I heard something outside of our tent one night!  Discovered the next morning it was just a loose plastic trash bag blowing against the side of our tent!  Whew!

We came home to over 100 degree weather after enjoying  mild days and cool evenings in the mountains.  We got all of the camping gear cleaned up and repacked it for storage until the next trip.

As for me, I am done camping for awhile and it will only be hotel camping from here on out!  At least until they talk me into going tent camping again next Spring!
